THE BEACON
THE BEACON
Working with a local community theatre, Hip Pocket, we were asked to create art pieces of our choice using only found materials. The Hip Pocket theatre sits on roughly 40 acres of rural countryside just outside of Ft. Worth. Working with another classmate, we sought to memorialize the history of the land with our piece.
Referring to the motif of a Roman Triumphal Column, we used materials we found throughout the property to abstract this classical form. The entire piece sits at about 12 feet tall. The squares that run vertically were once stage lights that have since been decommissioned. We oriented The Beacon along the primary axis of egress, requiring patrons to look at it as they leave.
